Fly Ash Acid Decomposition

Thermalshock resistance of highcontent fly ash–Portland cement blends was tested in the following ways. Activated and nonactivated blends with 80–90% fly ash F (FAF) were left to set at room temperature, then hydrated for 24 h at 85°C and then for an additional 24 h at 300°C, and tested in five thermalshock cycles (600°C heat – 25°C water quenching).

Cement was replaced with fly ash up to 70%. Test results indie that sulfuric acid resistance of steamcured concrete could be improved significantly by incorporation of fly ash. Under standard curing conditions, the strength values of highvolume fly ash concretes were satisfactory except 1day strength.

The lead content in flyash collected by an electrostatic precipitator has been determined by atomicabsorption spectrometry (AAS) after decomposition by four different leaching/dissolution techniques, and also determined by Xray fluorescence spectrometry (XRFS) by the standardaddition method.

The calcining 13 results in substantial decomposition of the almost spherical fly ash 1 globules, into calcined fly ash 14. The calcined fly ash 14 is then cooled 15 and subjected to acid treatment 16.

For instance, approximately 500 million tons of fly ash is discharged per year throughout the world. Since fly ash has a pozzolanic property after reaction with lime (Inada et al. 2005), about 20% of fly ash is used as building materials. Fly ash is used as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM) in the production of Portland cement concrete.

Fly ash can be seen on the surface of all specimens. It can clearly be seen that the number of fly ash particles on the surface increased as the pH increased. This occurred because the sulfuric acid corroded the PC surface, reducing the crosssectional area of the specimen and exposing surficial fly .

The fly ash captured in the filter dust collector is supplied back to the filter dust collector, where previously unreacted slaked lime is reused to improve acid gas removal efficiency.
